Domain Controllers still generating alerts after being put into maintenance mode

A colleague of mine was doing some work on DC’s so put them into maintenance mode via the scom console, he was perplexed to discover that the DC’s started to generate alerts when he started work on them. Why did this happen?

He used the DC State view in the Microsoft Windows Active Directory MP under the Monitoring tab to locate the DC’s, he right clicked on the DC’s and set Maintenance mode from here. It looked like the DC’s were in maintenance mode as  the spanner icon appeared.

Unknown to him that what he was doing was that he was only putting specific objects on the DC’s into maintenance mode using this method.

I asked him to stop maintenance mode then put the DC’s into maintenance mode by searching for them under the Windows Computer view. This worked as it put all objects for the DC into maintenance mode.
