It is common practice in SCOM management groups to configure e-mail notifications when alerts trigger.
Many people use this functionality but when they set it up they receive e-mails when the alert triggers and another e-mail when the alert closes.
A way to configure this so you only receive an e-mail for new active alerts is to modify your subscription as follows:-
In the subscription select “with a specific resolution state”, then for the state select “Select only specific Resolution State” and set it to “not equals”, “255”
Another change you can make is to put the resolution state first in the subject followed by the alert name, this way if you are wanting to send e-mail notifications for both “new” and “closed” alerts you can immediately tell by looking at the subject, the syntax is:-
$Data[Default=’Not Present’]/Context/DataItem/ResolutionStateName$ Alert: $Data[Default=’Not Present’]/Context/DataItem/AlertName$
