Agents appear grey in console but are still working

Came across this strange scenario and thought I would share it.

Basically I had a SCOM Gateway server showing up as healthy in the console i.e. circle with check mark icon but instead of being green the icons were grey!

The following troubleshooting steps were undertaken to resolve this:-

On the server being Monitored

1.Cleared the Operations Manager Event Log, didn’t bother saving it
2.Stopped the Systems Center Management service
3. Deleted the Health State folder found in  C:\Program Files\Systems Center Operations Manager 2007

On the SCOM Console

1.Deleted the monitored server from the console (Administration Node, Agent Managed view)

2.Open the Operations Manager Powershell and run the following command:-
Remove-DisabledMonitoringObject

3.Once the aforementioned powershell command finished executing started the System Center Management service on the server being monitored

After a few minutes the server reported back into SCOM console as green and healthy.
